Asthma: Ah! I Can Breathe!
Asthma: Ah! I Can Breathe! Audio NLP & Asthma Hypnosis CDs
Program Review By Markie Mazza
Having an asthma attack has always been a very scary experience for me. I make an effort to try to avoid them whenever possible. Unfortunately it’s not always possible to avoid asthma triggers such as other people’s perfumes or outdoor air pollution. This is why it is so important for asthma sufferers to always be prepared with an inhaler, and even better, by learning therapeutic techniques that prevent attacks. As I have found, this program provides many of these techniques.
I was curious to see if this program would work and got started as soon as I could. I tried it for a week before having a sudden asthma attack, and what happened surprised me so much that I continued to use the program over and over. For one thing, I was not, as I typically am, completely terrified during the asthma attack. Secondly, my attack was not severe at all, and I was able to calm down and breathe normally without using my inhaler. Actually, using this program has helped me become less dependent on inhalers. It feels good to be able to control my symptoms most of the time.
I also like this program because it is so easy to follow. Many parents might find this program suitable for an asthmatic child to use. The format of this program is very clear and user-friendly as well. It is composed of 6 hypnosis sessions on 2 CDs. It teaches you how to relax before and during an asthma attack, thereby relaxing constricted airways and helping you to breathe.
The first session provides a little introduction to hypnosis and asthma. I would not have thought to use hypnosis for asthma symptoms, but it makes sense that relaxing the airways will stop an attack. Creator Alan B. Densky proudly boasts that this program can be used to decrease the severity of asthma attacks or abort them entirely. The program uses several different approaches that will work for most people, and it feels very motivating and encouraging.
The program truly begins in session 2 with the first hypnotic induction. This session is supposed to automatically teach your unconscious to expect positive outcomes and allay your fears about having an asthma attack. Being hypnotized gives you a feeling of relaxation and amazing calm that truly turned me into a believer. In fact, after being introduced to hypnosis, I think that everyone can benefit from learning hypnotic techniques to cope with emotional issues, and not just specific conditions such as asthma.
Session 3 introduces Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), sophisticated techniques which use visualizations to train the mind. With Densky’s NLP Flash, you learn how to use stressful situations to trigger positive feelings of relaxation. A series of NLP techniques will teach you how to detach yourself from a situation to immediately feel calm and relaxed. I tend to get overwhelmed easily so this is just what I needed to fight my asthma!
The next sessions combine Ericksonian metaphor and NLP to help use hypnosis for relaxation and to make this become an automatic process. How great is it that you don’t need to do work to enjoy the powers of hypnosis? You will find yourself thinking more positively and calming down before an asthma attack can occur. There is a certain harmony of the mind and body in it all.
The final session is a real gem which teaches you how to use self-hypnosis for relaxation. The bonus is that I can apply these techniques to all kinds of situations. I use them to prevent asthma attacks, to calm down when anything goes wrong, and to help myself feel positive and more motivated. It is simple, and once you get the hang of it, quite easy.
All in all, this program provides a useful way to help cope with asthma and made me less dependent on my inhaler. In a way, it is nicer than using an inhaler because of the sense of accomplishment you have from knowing that you possess the innate ability to prevent an attack. Although I always have my inhaler just in case, I no longer dread visiting new places or having experiences which might trigger my asthma. This has made the program highly worthwhile to me and this is why others can also benefit from its use.
